Our Core Technologies

Novel Diagnostic Science

Rooted in innovative approaches in photochemistry and photophysics, our diagnostic technique offers a fundamentally new means of detecting small molecule analytes. Our proprietary detector compounds are being designed to selectively associate to any given analyte of interest to generate unique and quantifiable signals. This work is supported by an NSF SBIR Phase I grant, ranking it among the top 10% of proposals in 2021.

How it relates to mycotoxins:

The ExciPlex diagnostic technique was conceived to match the needs of the mycotoxin detection field. Mycotoxins are tailor-made analytes for our concept, and the specificity of the detector compound interactions will allow for signal production even in complex biological mixtures, from simple grains to silages to finished feeds. This increased versatility is central to the value our technology will provide.

Portable Spectrometer

ExciPlex is developing a portable spectrometer that will offer high-level spectroscopic performance in any setting and with complete connectivity. Our smartphone-associated design provides dual-mode capabilities (absorbance and fluorescence; full spectral scans) in a small, lightweight form factor. Capable of cloud-based processing or offline processing, the mobile app provides real-time data analysis. A user-facing web client will allow for higher order analyses (time, location, multi-site) that are customizable to the individual needs of the customer (and even to other industries!).

How it relates to mycotoxins:

Our smartphone-associated device provides the enabling functional capabilities necessary for on-site detection system in grain mills, livestock farms, or anywhere that mycotoxins pose a threat. Users get immediate feedback on toxin levels via the mobile app, and the web client will allow customers to track contamination rates, make key feed formulation decisions, and assess remediation tactics!
